Paymentology has appointed payments heavyweight Peter Theunis as principal advisor, bolstering its push into new markets and strengthening its focus on high-growth fintech and banking clients.
As the company expands across new regions and deepens its work with unicorn fintechs, retail banks and corporate banks, Theunis arrives with the kind of cross-market experience that matches that ambition. Over the course of his career, he has helped launch leading neobanks, modernise traditional banking propositions and support the growth of fintech ecosystems, giving Paymentology added senior firepower as it scales internationally.
Most recently, Theunis was country manager for Belgium and Luxembourg at Visa, where he oversaw market development and partnerships across the region. Earlier in his career, he held senior roles at BPC, Endava, OpenWay and Clear2Pay, and also worked on financial innovation initiatives with the UAE Ministry of Finance.
Alongside his corporate roles, Theunis has also co-founded two fintech ventures and is active as an angel investor and industry speaker. His experience spans card issuing, merchant acquiring, money movement and payments infrastructure, across both established financial institutions and newer fintech businesses.
Greatest opportunities
“Peter’s appointment is significant for Paymentology,” says Anna Porra, chief revenue officer at Paymentology. “He brings not only deep sector expertise, but also the perspective that comes from leading across multiple markets and different parts of the payments value chain.
“He understands how the industry is evolving, where the greatest opportunities lie, and what it takes to build real growth momentum. His contribution will be invaluable as we continue to expand our global presence and strengthen our leadership position in the market.”
Theunis also added: “Paymentology has built a business with real substance: a modern platform, international reach, and a proposition that is well aligned to where the market is moving. Just as importantly, it has an exceptional team and deep bench of payments expertise across its business. There is a strong foundation in place and a clear opportunity to build further from here. I’m looking forward to working with the team to help turn that opportunity into sustained growth.”
