Emirates NBD has expanded its VIP Privilege Program for Business Banking clients, widening access from an invitation-only arrangement to all existing business customers and new customers within qualifying packages. The Dubai-headquartered bank announced the move on 7 October 2026, framing it as a structural upgrade to its premium SME proposition in the UAE.
The programme operates on a points-based qualification model. Business Banking clients must accumulate 100,000 points in a review year, generated through deposits, loan and wealth balances, and transaction volumes in foreign exchange and trade finance. Customers on the bank’s Emirati package receive a 25% bonus on qualifying points, a concession that reflects the UAE’s broader policy emphasis on supporting national-owned enterprises.
What the programme delivers
At the centre of the offering sits the Visa Infinite Business Debit Card, which Emirates NBD describes as a first of its kind for a business debit product in the MENA region. The card anchors a wider suite of services, including direct-to-agent contact centre access with no queue, priority handling at Business Banking Centres, a dedicated relationship manager, and preferential pricing on banking fees.
Beyond the core banking relationship, the programme extends into operational savings. Members receive discounts on airport meet-and-assist services across more than 450 global destinations, preferred car rental rates, and access to reduced pricing on marketing tools, HR and finance software, co-working space rentals and business publications. Lifestyle perks include complimentary access to more than 1,000 airport lounges globally, concierge support for dining and travel, and valet parking at major UAE landmarks.
Hamad Mohamed Zayed, group head of business banking at Emirates NBD, said: “This initiative recognises the vital role of businesses in economic growth and provides them with preferential pricing and curated privileges that add tangible value to both their daily business operations and personal lifestyle.”
Market context
The structured bundling of banking services, operational tools and lifestyle benefits for SMEs is a segment that several Gulf banks have moved into as they compete for the primary banking relationship with the region’s growing cohort of small and mid-sized firms. Emirates NBD’s scale, with AED 1.3 trillion in total assets as at June 2026 and a network spanning 13 countries, gives it distribution depth that most challenger propositions in the region cannot match.
The qualifying mechanics matter here. Tying VIP status to deposit, loan, wealth and FX balances rather than to a flat fee is a deliberate design to deepen primary banking relationships rather than simply reward card spend. It creates a consolidation incentive: the more of a business’s banking activity sits with Emirates NBD, the easier it is to reach the 100,000-point threshold. This approach is consistent with a broader trend among incumbent banks in the Gulf to use loyalty architecture as a defensive tool against both regional competitors and the growing presence of digital business banking platforms.
The regulatory environment in the UAE, overseen by the Central Bank of the UAE under its Financial Infrastructure Transformation programme, has been pushing for greater SME financial access and digital service delivery. A programme that combines preferential pricing with digital channel integration through the businessONLINE platform aligns with that policy direction, even if the release frames it primarily in commercial terms.
The next meaningful disclosure to watch is uptake data: the number of qualifying customers in the first review year and the proportion of the bank’s SME base that reaches the 100,000-point threshold will indicate whether the programme is genuinely broadening access or functioning as a retention tool for a narrow top tier.
