Revolut Rolls Out New In-App Security Feature Amid Rising Impersonation Scams

Revolut has introduced a new security feature enabling personal customers to make in-app calls, aimed at  mitigating impersonation scams.

These scams, where fraudsters pose as banks or trusted authorities, have seen a decrease among Revolut customers to the lowest levels in nearly two years, despite significant growth in the company’s user base.

Revolut developed the in-app calling feature over several months to provide customers with a secure method of direct communication with customer support, ensuring authenticity and reducing the risk of fraud.

“Impersonation scams can be a major hazard for many consumers,” says Woody Malouf, head of financial crime at Revolut. “We know that the most effective way to stop a scam is to break the spell as fast as possible, before any money has been transferred. That’s why we are providing for our customers innovative solutions that help them uncover a scam quickly.

“The vast majority of our calls to individuals will be through our app, so if you receive an unplanned call regarding your personal account from somebody claiming to be Revolut, put the phone down and check through the app that they are who they say they are. Speaking to someone through our app means customers can be 100% sure they are talking to Revolut and not a fraudster.”

Revolut’s feature integrates directly within the app, creating a secure communication channel that external parties cannot replicate. The new system notifies customers that the majority of outbound calls from customer support will now take place within the app, an innovation that will soon extend to Revolut Business customers as well.

The move is part of a broader strategy to enhance the safety of customer interactions and prevent fraudulent activities.

Supporting City

Earlier this week, Manchester City Women unveiled a new global partnership with Revolut, marking the fintech’s first foray into women’s football and expanding the team’s network of commercial partners. This collaboration aims to enhance the visibility of Manchester City Women both domestically and globally.

As part of the agreement, Revolut will feature on the training kit sleeves of Manchester City Women, and team captain Alex Greenwood will act as a Revolut ambassador. The partnership includes a Revolut takeover at the Manchester City Women vs. Chelsea match at the Etihad Stadium in March. Additionally, both Manchester City Women and Revolut will provide exclusive benefits and experiences to their fans and customers.
