Dispute prevention firm Chargebacks911 has teamed up with client-side intelligence provider cside. The collaboration aims to offer merchants a combined solution to reduce chargebacks, prevent fraud and address website vulnerabilities by integrating dispute remediation with real-time web monitoring.
The partnership combines Chargebacks911âs experience in chargeback management with csideâs security platform, which monitors user login locations, provides device identification data and analyses web usage patterns.
According to the companies, merchants will be able to use data captured by cside as compelling evidence in dispute resolution cases, specifically referencing new programmes like Visaâs Compelling Evidence 3.0 and Mastercardâs First-Party Trust Program.
By merging data from both platforms, the companies say merchants will gain layered protection against threats such as friendly fraud, operational inefficiencies and fraudulent activity triggered by compromised third-party scripts on their websites.
Addressing evolving fraud tactics and browser-side risks

Company representatives framed the partnership as a necessary response to increasingly sophisticated fraud methods and changes in consumer behaviour.
âEvolving fraud tactics, emerging technology, and shifts in consumer behavior are colliding to create a perfect storm for merchants,â said Monica Eaton, chief executive officer of Chargebacks911. âBy joining forces with cside, weâre delivering cutting-edge solutions that address the real-world issues merchants struggle with dailyâfrom friendly fraud and false claims to hidden browser-side risks that compromise customer trust.â
Simon Wijckmans, chief executive officer at cside, added: âMerchants shouldnât have to choose between protecting their customers and protecting their revenue. This partnership brings together the best of both worlds, chargeback expertise and advanced web security, so businesses can operate with confidence, knowing theyâre covered on both fronts.â
The impact of chargeback abuse and client-side attacks
Chargebacks, initially designed as a cardholder protection mechanism, present a significant challenge for businesses. Citing a study from Mastercard, Chargebacks911 noted that nearly one in five small businesses impacted by chargeback fraud had to file for bankruptcy. Furthermore, Visa estimates that up to 75 per cent of all chargebacks are instances of abuse or misuse, yet merchants have a net recovery rate of only 18 per new research from Chargebacks911.
A related threat highlighted by the partnership is client-side script-based attacks, also known as web or digital skimming. These occur when malicious code is injected into third-party scripts running on a website, often to steal credit card data.
One frequently cited example is the 2018 British Airways hack, where malicious JavaScript captured payment details from approximately 429,612 customers, leading to a fine of £20million from the UKâs Information Commissionerâs Office. More recently, the 2024 compromise of Polyfill.io, an open-source library, affected over 490,000 websites.
The joint solution also aims to help merchants comply with new payment rules and regulations, including the real-time identification of enumeration attacks to protect against card testing, a metric monitored under Visaâs Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP).
