Dobbies Garden Centres has teamed up with financial technology platform Adyen to streamline its payments infrastructure across all sales channels. The retailer, which operates 53 stores nationwide, will adopt Adyen’s unified commerce solution to manage payments from in-store tills and terminals to online orders.
The move is part of a broader investment strategy for Dobbies, which is currently undergoing a £4million store refurbishment programme. By integrating with a single platform, Dobbies aims to gain a consolidated view of customer transactions, which it states will enable faster service and a more efficient returns process.
According to the company, the new system will significantly reduce the time it takes for staff to resolve payment queries. Previously, resolving an issue could take up to three hours, whereas the integrated platform is expected to allow colleagues to address most issues in under ten minutes.
Enhancing customer loyalty and in-store experience
The partnership also supports Dobbies’ loyalty programme, which has 1.4 million members. The retailer plans to use the enhanced customer insights from the unified platform to better understand purchasing behaviour, allowing for more personalised rewards and tailored customer experiences throughout the year.
The need for a flexible payments system was highlighted by the diverse nature of Dobbies’ business, which includes retail, hospitality, and experiential offerings within its garden centres.
Keith Keenan, IT director at Dobbies, said: “Adyen gives us the agility to stay ahead of retail trends and the visibility to ensure we’re stocked with what matters most to our customers. It also enables us to deliver a consistent, modern payment experience – whether customers shop in-store or online, while empowering our colleagues with real-time insights that enhance our service.”
Nicole Olbe, managing director at Adyen, also added: “We’re pleased to partner with a brand so rooted in its community, supporting their teams with the technology to offer smooth, flexible payment experiences.”
Dobbies was founded in 1865 and is celebrating its 160th anniversary this year. The majority of its stores feature a restaurant or coffee shop alongside traditional retail offerings. Adyen’s platform provides end-to-end payments capabilities, data insights as well as financial products, and is used by a range of global companies.
