Idram Brings Alipay+ to Armenia in Cross-Border QR Payment First

Armenia has become the first country in the Caucasus to support Alipay+ payments, following a new partnership between local fintech Idram and global payments platform Alipay+.

The integration enables international users of Alipay+ partner wallets to make QR-based payments at thousands of Armenian businesses, boosting digital connectivity for tourists and helping local merchants tap into a broader global economy.

Over the next few months, Idram plans to enable Alipay+ payments at around 25,000 retail and hospitality locations across Armenia, including major supermarkets and tourist hotspots. The rollout will make cross-border payments via Alipay+ partner wallets widely available, covering over 85 per cent of the country’s key merchants.

“This partnership is a testament to Idram’s commitment to innovation and cross-border collaboration,” said Arsene Kdenian, CEO of Idram. “By opening our QR infrastructure to Alipay+, we are not only embracing the future of international payments, but also creating a welcoming and convenient experience for millions of global users engaging with Armenian merchants.”

Network connection

To support the rollout, new Alipay+ signage will help guide international visitors toward participating businesses. Idram also said it is working with Alipay+ to explore outbound payment options for Armenian users, potentially connecting them to Alipay+’s global network of 100 million merchants across 70 markets.

With this move, Armenia is joining a major international payment ecosystem, aiming to link its merchants with global travellers and unlock new opportunities for digitally-driven, cross-border commerce.

Idram will continue to work with Alipay+ towards opening up opportunities for Idram wallet users to pay in the Alipay+ merchant ecosystem globally. Alipay+ serves 1.7 billion user accounts of 36 mobile payment partners, connecting them to 100m merchants across 70 markets.

Pietro Candela, general manager of EMEA at Alipay+, also added: ““We’re delighted to join hands with Idram to enable the launch of Alipay+ in Armenia, enhancing the travel experience for international travellers from around the world.

“With Alipay+, Armenian businesses of all sizes can benefit from inclusive digitalisation which helps unlock the economic benefits of global tourism for this popular travel destination.”
