Senegalese fintech KaliSpot has announced the deployment of its first ‘1Net’ smart kiosks in Dakar. The company also revealed it has signed its first distribution partnership with Solarix, a technology and energy firm, to cover the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo.
The 1Net kiosks are designed as 24/7 neighbourhood access points that provide cash-in and cash-out services through a shared infrastructure. The platform is interoperable, allowing customers of banks, fintechs, and mobile money providers to use the services.
According to the company, the solution aims to address the fragmentation and limitations of existing cash-in/cash-out services, particularly in areas founder Mika Diol describes as “financial deserts”. The kiosks are powered by proprietary technology that includes conversational AI in local languages and biometric verification to facilitate user access.
Shared infrastructure for financial access
The stated goal of the 1Net kiosks is to offer a unified financial access point that overcomes the technological barriers and exclusivity of current systems. The platform is designed to be fully interoperable, aligning with regional financial integration initiatives underway in the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) zone.
The company also aims to solve issues such as limited service availability in urban areas during peak hours and a general lack of access in rural regions. By providing a shared and hybrid (physical and intelligent) infrastructure, KaliSpot intends to bring essential financial services closer to consumers.
Expansion plans across West and Central Africa
The initial deployment of kiosks in Dakar is the first step in a planned large-scale rollout across Senegal throughout 2025. Following this, the company plans to expand to other countries in the sub-region.
A key part of this expansion strategy is the new partnership with Solarix. Under the agreement, Solarix will act as the distributor for KaliSpot’s 1Net kiosks in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Republic of Congo, establishing a presence for the company in the Congo Basin.
Jacinthe Masamba, CEO of Solarix, commented on the partnership: “This strategic partnership with KaliSpot reflects our commitment to building sustainable and interoperable infrastructure solutions in the DRC and Congo. Together, we will deploy technology that redefines access to financial services, while enhancing integration between the Congo Basin markets and the rest of Africa. We believe this alliance paves the way for a new stage of growth and transformation for our financial and technological ecosystems.”
KaliSpot’s long-term ambition is to build the first hybrid proximity platform in West and Central Africa within the next three years, relying on a network of selected partners to achieve this goal.
