Revolut has announced a significant expansion of its strategic partnership with Google Cloud. The multi-year, multi-million dollar agreement will see Revolut leverage Google Cloud’s infrastructure and artificial intelligence tools to support its global growth ambitions and product development.
The fintech company, which currently serves over 60 million customers, stated that the partnership is a key part of its strategy to scale its user base to more than 100 million globally. As part of the deepened collaboration, Revolut plans to harness Google’s AI tools, including its Gemini models, to improve fraud detection capabilities and enhance product personalisation for its customers.
Revolut’s relationship with Google builds on an existing foundation where it has become a major partner for Google Pay and Wallet services. The company’s customer base has grown from 1.5 million users in 2018, positioning it as a large-scale user of cloud infrastructure in the European fintech sector.
Infrastructure for product innovation
According to the announcement, the partnership will provide the technological foundation for Revolut’s next phase of global expansion and product innovation. Revolut has recently diversified its offerings, announcing new services such as proprietary ATMs in Europe and plans to enter the telecoms industry with mobile plans in the UK and Germany. The company stated the scalable infrastructure provided by Google Cloud underpins these new services.
David Tirado, vice president of global business and profitability at Revolut, said: “Google’s world-leading AI and cloud infrastructure are an incredible asset. This partnership will empower us to rapidly scale our offerings, deliver even more personalised and valuable experiences to our customers, and continue to outpace the traditional financial sector. We’re building the future of finance, and Google is a key partner on that journey.”
Tara Brady, president of Google Cloud EMEA, also added: “Revolut is consistently pushing the boundaries of the financial sector. Google is proud to provide the secure, scalable, and intelligent infrastructure, powered by our leading AI, to fuel its ambitious global expansion and help it deliver the next generation of financial services to a new audience.”
