Thredd completes BigPay card migration to next-gen platform

Thredd, the AI-first, cloud-enabled global payments processor, has completed the full migration of BigPay’s card portfolio from a legacy provider to its next-generation issuing platform.

The migration stems from the accelerating industry need to modernise payment infrastructures. As legacy platforms struggle to support hyperpersonalisation, richer digital experiences and faster delivery cycles, analysts warn that retail banks failing to upgrade risk losing 10% to 15% of payments revenue annually. With more than 100 million cards expected to migrate to modern processors each year for the next five years, demand for trusted migration partners continues to intensify.

Thredd provides issuer processing through a single API and unified platform, powering debit, credit, digital wallet and ledger capabilities across 47 countries. It processes billions of transactions every year, backed by integrated AI, local regulatory expertise and a technology stack designed for resilience, speed and scale.

The completed project moved over 2.5 million BigPay physical and virtual cards.

BigPay group CEO Aireen Omar said, “Cardholders rely on consistent service, and even short disruptions can affect their confidence. As our customers’ needs continue to grow, it is important to work with a partner who understands our priorities and has a strong track record. Thredd was well-positioned to support that.”

Jim McCarthy, CEO of Thredd, said, “The industry is facing a strategic window—and a technological ultimatum. Portfolios trapped on legacy platforms are expected to incur unrecoverable losses in market share, customer base, and revenue by 2030 due to the inability to innovate and rein in the high cost of outages and back-office inefficiencies.”
