Lemonade, the US-based digital insurance company driven by AI and social impact, has marked the eighth consecutive year of giving back to a number of local and global charities selected by customers.
As part of its â2024 Givebackâ, Lemonade donated $2,112,608 to 43 nonprofits globally, supporting causes including healthcare, education, climate, global poverty, and animal rights. Customers are able to choose a nonprofit to support when signing up for a Lemonade renters, homeowners, car, or pet insurance policy.
Shai Wininger, co-founder and president of Lemonade
âSocial impact is a core pillar of who we are as Lemonade and has been since the very beginning,â explained Shai Wininger, co-founder and president of Lemonade. âThe tangible impact of our Giveback programme with more than $10million donated since Lemonadeâs founding underscores the profound difference companies like ours can make. Giveback reflects the collective power of community and its ability to drive meaningful change, and thatâs something weâre very proud of.â
One beneficiary was Pencils of Promise, a nonprofit focused on access to quality education for children, which plans to use Lemonade donation to build an entire school for a community in Ghana, supporting over 200 students each year.
âWe believe every child should have access to quality education, driving our mission to create safe and healthy learning environments where students can reach their full potential,â said Brad Wisdom, chief global advancement officer at Pencils of Promise. âThis year marks five years working with Lemonadeâs Giveback programme, and itâs been amazing to see the partnership grow over that time. Weâve been able to provide technology resources to schools, clean drinking water to thousands of classrooms, and now weâre building an entire school directly from this yearâs Giveback donation â an incredible opportunity to impact so many childrenâs lives.â
âThe ability to create change is transformativeâ
Thanks to the impact of Giveback since its foundation, over 40,000 have gained access to clean and safe drinking water through community projects, such as new wells and taps, via charity: water and Pencils of Promise.
Scott Harrison, founder and CEO of charity: water
âWeâre honoured to partner with Lemonade and their community to bring clean drinking water to over 28,000 people since 2017,â said Scott Harrison, founder and CEO of charity: water. âAs one of Lemonadeâs earliest Giveback partners, weâve seen firsthand how the impact has compounded as Lemonade grows. Our partnership is proof that when passionate, conscious companies and nonprofits team up, the ability to create change is transformative.â
Since 2017, the Lemonade Giveback has grown by 3,873 per cent, while successfully providing meals to 624,693 people in need through nonprofits including Feeding America and City Meals on Wheels.
It has also enabled over one million students and teachers to access tools, resources, and opportunities to support their education through organisations like Teach for America and Robin Hood.
With the latest donation, the volunteer-based organisation Objective Zero Foundation plans to provide 24,500 American service members, veterans, and family members access to PTSD support via the Objective Zero app. Meanwhile, New Story, a nonprofit focused on the global housing crisis, will fund new homes for 100 families in an underserved neighbourhood in Jalisco, Mexico.
