Hub71 Launches Immersion Programme to Connect Hong Kong Startups with Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi’s global tech ecosystem, Hub71, launched the Hub71 Startup Immersion Programme at the Investopia conference in Hong Kong. The programme is designed to connect later-stage Hong Kong startups with Abu Dhabi’s tech ecosystem, providing a pathway to explore regional expansion and market access.

The launch at Investopia Hong Kong, an event hosted by the UAE Ministry of Economy, underscores the country’s mission to strengthen global economic partnerships through innovation. As part of the launch, Hub71 signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with three Hong Kong-based innovation hubs: the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park Limited (HSITPL), Hong Kong Cyberport, and MTR Lab.

The new partnerships are intended to establish a strong pipeline of high-potential startups for the immersion programme, while also facilitating reciprocal ecosystem access and knowledge exchange.

HSITPL, which is developing a world-class innovation and technology hub, will collaborate with Hub71 to support startups from Mainland China and Hong Kong planning to scale into Abu Dhabi and the wider region. Hong Kong Cyberport, which hosts over 2,200 companies, will work with Hub71 to help startups expand into the Middle East, while also attracting Middle Eastern enterprises to set up in Hong Kong. MTR Lab, a subsidiary of MTR Corporation focused on mobility and smart city solutions, will connect its portfolio companies with Hub71 to explore expansion opportunities.

Ahmad Ali Alwan, chief executive officer of Hub71, said: “Investopia, as a UAE-based platform dedicated to accelerating the growth of the new economy, offers a powerful stage to amplify our collaboration with Hong Kong’s tech ecosystem. Through the Hub71 Immersion Programme launched here, we connect ambitious ecosystems and create pathways for scaling startups beyond their home markets. We are enabling startups from Hong Kong to access new opportunities, leveraging Abu Dhabi’s global access to expand internationally and deliver innovative solutions that address global challenges.”

Programme structure and market access

The two-week immersion programme is designed to fast-track market entry for startups through a combination of virtual onboarding for market readiness and an in-person session in Abu Dhabi.

During the programme, founders will gain direct access to regulators, investors, and corporate partners, along with tailored mentorship and curated networking opportunities. Participating startups will also gain exposure to Abu Dhabi-based investors, access to regional pilot projects, and opportunities to collaborate with government and corporate partners. The programme will conclude with a Demo Day held during Hub71’s Impact Event in Abu Dhabi.

This initiative marks Hub71’s fourth cross-border engagement this year, following strategic programmes in New Jersey, Japan, and Ireland. The efforts reflect Hub71’s broader goal of connecting Abu Dhabi with leading global innovation hubs and positioning the UAE capital as a launchpad for international startup expansion.
