BSI Launches Certification Service for UK Digital Identity Framework Compliance

The British Standards Institution (BSI) has launched a new certification service to help organisations comply with the latest version (Gamma 0.4) of the UK government’s Digital Identity and Attributes Trust Framework (DIATF).

The service is designed to support trusted digital verification services (DVS), such as digital identification checks for employment screening and digital right-to-rent checks. According to BSI, organisations certified through the scheme can demonstrate that their digital identity services meet high standards for security, privacy, and reliability.

The launch follows the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 achieving Royal Assent in June. This act establishes a formal legal framework for digital verification services in the UK, moving the DIATF beyond its previous pilot phase and into full implementation. The framework sets new standards for how data is used, shared, and protected across various sectors.

Digital verification across sectors

The UK DIATF establishes the official framework for deploying trusted digital verification services, aiming to make them safer and easier to BSI launches certification service to build trust in digital identity verification services use as they become more integrated into business and government functions. Key areas include financial onboarding services, right to work checks, and age assurance.

The BSI certification service will allow individuals and organisations in sectors such as financial services, healthcare, the public sector, and legal services to use and share digital identities and attributes with greater confidence in the underlying provider’s compliance.
