COLIBRIX ONE Taps Vivox AI for Automated KYB Merchant Onboarding

COLIBRIX ONE, the payments infrastructure platform operated within the Mellifera group, has selected Vivox AI under a multi-year agreement to automate know-your-business checks across its UK and EU merchant base. The deal is designed to reduce the time compliance analysts spend processing document-heavy due diligence on new business customers without removing human sign-off from the process.

Under the arrangement, Vivox AI’s explainable AI agents will handle corporate document verification, ultimate beneficial owner mapping, and sanctions and adverse media screening. Every AI-generated finding is traceable to its underlying source, and COLIBRIX ONE’s compliance team will review and approve each case before it is closed. The rollout covers merchant onboarding in the UK and EU, with plans to extend to ongoing monitoring and additional entity types in 2027.

What the technology does

Vivox AI’s agents draw on corporate registry data across more than 155 countries to identify ownership structures, shareholders and directors, then generate a full customer due diligence or enhanced due diligence report for analyst review. In an earlier deployment at international payments firm TransferMate, the company said due diligence time fell from roughly 60 minutes to under 15 minutes per case, with screening alerts declining by 86 per cent. Those figures come from Vivox AI’s own account of the TransferMate project and have not been independently verified.

Tim Khamzin, founder and chief executive of Vivox AI, said: “AI agents take on the document-heavy due diligence work where every conclusion comes with a clear audit trail, so analysts stay in control and regulators can see exactly how a decision was reached. That is what makes AI usable in a regulated business.”

COLIBRIX ONE is authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an electronic money institution (FRN 927920) and holds a parallel authorisation through Mellifera Kartiera Limited from the Malta Financial Services Authority. Its product stack includes card acquiring for one-time and recurring transactions, multi-currency current accounts with dedicated named IBANs, and global payouts, with principal memberships at Visa and Mastercard.

Regulatory and market context

The timing reflects a specific pressure on payment platforms regulated under UK and EU financial crime frameworks. The FCA has tightened its expectations on anti-money laundering controls and merchant due diligence for e-money institutions in recent years, and the EU’s AML package, including the forthcoming AML Authority, will raise baseline obligations further across the bloc. For platforms that compete partly on onboarding speed, manual KYB on merchants with complex, multi-jurisdiction ownership structures is a genuine operational bottleneck.

The market for AI-assisted compliance tooling is expanding quickly. Established regtech vendors and a new generation of AI-native compliance firms are competing to automate the same document-heavy workflows, often positioning explainability and audit-trail quality as the differentiator that makes their products acceptable to risk functions and supervisors alike. COLIBRIX ONE’s choice of a dedicated AI compliance vendor rather than a bundled solution from its existing technology stack reflects a broader pattern among licensed payment firms: separating the compliance workflow layer from the core processing infrastructure in order to swap components as the tooling matures.

The key variable to watch in deployments like this one is whether the efficiency gains cited from the TransferMate reference hold across a larger and more varied merchant portfolio, particularly for merchants with layered holding structures in higher-risk jurisdictions, where beneficial ownership mapping is hardest and regulatory tolerance for errors is lowest.
