Bitbank Unveils VC Subsidiary, Bitbank Ventures, Planning to Back Promising Blockchain Projects

Bitbank, the crypto assets exchange, has officially launched Bitbank Ventures, a new investment firm focusing on projects within the crypto and blockchain space.

Bitbank Ventures is established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the crypto exchange, which aims to conduct ‘more serious’ investment activities in projects that utilise crypto assets and blockchain technology.

Having collaborated with multiple projects and crypto funds in the past, as well as having been continuously engaged in investment activities, Bitbank revealed it believes that social implementation will progress in the future by utilising crypto assets and blockchain technology, which realise value transfer on the internet in a more open manner.

Bitbank Ventures will consider investing in any blockchain-related projects, ranging from pre-seed to series A. It plans to focus on projects from Japan, but will also consider efforts based overseas.

In May, Noriyuki Hirosue, founder and CEO of Bitbank, discussed the potential of these technologies as the company celebrated its 10th anniversary: “Blockchain and bitcoin technology is sure to advance the digital society. We want to spread this technology in a healthy way and contribute to the progress of the world.”

The news comes as the business and technology industry continues to adapt to the rapid spread of large language models (LLMs), which has attracted significant attention to the fields of AI and crypto.

While the internet enabled more people to actively participate in creating and distributing all types of values, Bitbank explained that it believes crypto assets and blockchain technology will further foster more open and fair communities.

Bitbank Ventures plans to become one of the first organisations to spot new projects, and wants to act as a bridge to develop and deepen Japan’s cryptocurrency business. Through Bitbank Ventures, Bitbank will also consider commercialisation with each of Bitbank’s businesses based on business synergy, share know-how about the Japanese market, and introduce domestic and international partners.
